I am looking for a converter to make my Sony PMW-F55 XAVC footage to fit into Adobe After Effects. However, the program does not recognize the files from my camcorder. Should I convert XAVC to ASF or something else to fix the problem? – asked by Steven.
XAVC is initially used by Sony CineAlta 4K camcorders: the PMW-F5 and PMW-F55. It supports superb 4K resolution at up to 60 frames per second. Although this file format gains great popularity since its release, there is not much software capable of supporting it, such as Windows Movie Maker, Adobe After Effects, Final Cut Pro X, and more.
In order to handle the XAVC incompatibility issue, you can convert XAVC to ASF or some other common video formats, so you can use the recorded footage without limitations. Jihosoft Video Converter (Video Converter for Mac) is specially designed to fix all the video/audio format problems. It works great for converting XAVC files with best output quality.
1. Launch the converter program on your computer.
2. Transfer XAVC footage from your Sony camcorder to PC by firewire. Then import them into the software.
3. Select ASF as the desired output video format from “Profile” drop-down menu.
4. Customize the output path if necessary and click “Start” to begin the conversion.
Tips: besides converting XAVC to ASF, this program also enables you to convert Sony 4K footage to many other popular video formats like MOV, MP4, FLV, AVI, ProRes, etc. Meanwhile, a bundle of optimized preset formats are integrated. You can make your XAVC files fit for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, etc in one click.
ASF files are playable on a wide variety of applications, such as different types of serves and local storage devices. It provides a means to share one multimedia file easily over different range of bandwidths and create multimedia files independent of operating system. ASF files are supported by Windows Media Player and VideoLAN VLC media player over all platforms.
